I was a Kagi user for a while and enjoyed it. But ultimately $10/month is too much for a search engine.

I understand that price also includes the AI stuff, but I’d rather use something like the ChatGPT app directly than go via Kagi for that.

Right now there’s $10 for unlimited search and AI stuff and $5 for limited search and AI stuff.

At what price point could Kagi offer unlimited search and no AI stuff?

Same vibe. Tired of having so many non trivial subscriptions which add up.

Let me give you $1 or $2 per month (or $24/year) for my 10-ish search requests a week and you've got yourself a subscriber.

I would pay 3-4$ a month for search for like 1K search a month no AI. Current 5$ for 300 searches per month is too much. Maybe even less with 2y commitments a la NordVPN

It was always a dubious business idea, but now with AI being able to handle search so well, I can’t imagine ever paying.

Maybe if it was a secure instance you could order for your organisation. Like a police force or consulting company, where you don’t want people eavesdropping on your traffic.

Kagi was $10 before the AI stuff. So the answer is probably $10.

Free things cost us far more than we realize, and that has left us deluded as to the appropriate cost of paid things. We're also incredibly reluctant to sacrifice for the greater good.

What is the value to society of having a search engine alternative that doesn't desperately mine and monetize every single thing about us they can?

It's not just a search engine subscription.

This could be a first step towards freeing us from advertising. An investment in an alternate vision that doesn't rely on rampant manipulation and consumerism.

The cost is, what, a few coffees per month? Can we afford to not support initiatives like this? We can steer away from a feudalist cyberpunk dystopia.

Yet, after all of that, I still don't want to pay $10/mo.

I have the same question. Kagi can use and should use machine learning (aka AI) to process data, provide and sort search results. But an option to have it return only information that comes from the source (the search results), at a low price without ads, would be more useful for me. And perhaps competitive differentiation for Kagi.
