After seeing the blazing progress that Omarchy has been making with making Linux work on the latest macbook I'm planning on switching all 3 of the M1/M2 to Omarchy and planning on buying an M3 macbook air in the future. I appreciate the work that Asahi did to get the ball rolling, but they've just been left in the dust with their anti AI stance.

AI proponents always act like this is self-evidently a bad thing, but it isn't. When someone is going in the wrong direction, it is good for them to leave you behind. I believe that projects which embrace LLMs are going in a bad direction, and I'm glad to see more sensible maintainers get "left in the dust".

The patches to the Linux kernel have been about 50% made by AI in the past 6 months. The magic of open source is you can just fork it and go at your own pace and do whatever you want, and others can embrace whatever technology they want and then market adoption just speaks for whichever is superior.

How is making your project better — more feature complete, more secure, more performant and optimized — going in a bad direction? This is all platitudes and virtue signaling. Give me substantive reasons LLM “slop” is worse than human “slop”.

How, exactly? AFAIK, Asahi officially supports just as many Macs as Omarchy does. The vast majority of Apple Silicon support in Omarchy comes from upstream Linux changes merged by Asahi, not any of the Omarchy devs.

The only feature I'm aware of Omarchy adding is the fingerprint reader driver, which is in such a poor state that it could never be merged upstream. Which, if that's the standard of quality Omarchy is holding themselves to, they're the ones getting left in the dust.
