Yeah, read that, laughed. While the statement may have some truthiness, if one flips it around it is basically saying that the norms of musl community allow programmers to be extra dumb.

Taking a different perspective, there are two intertwined thoughts in the original article and in most comments: 1) language safety, 2) community safety.

Each needs to assessed on its own.

Regarding muvlon's comment in the lobsters thread:

> > I think it was the programmer, but I tend to not blame tools.

> We really, really need to rid ourselves of this harmful, outdated safety culture. Every other engineering discipline has learned decades ago that "operator error" is not acceptable as a root cause analysis. If the same tool or system repeatedly causes humans to make certain mistakes, it needs to be changed.

It is perfectly possible for systematically poor hiring standards or systematically poor ability to fire incompetents, to be the determined root cause of a root cause analysis.

Likewise, in many countries, certain professions have continuous testing of their abilities, training and knowledge long after graduation, and certain titles, also in engineering, are protected.

Universities and professions have tests, like the bar exam for lawyers in the USA.

Perhaps muvlon is afraid that he is so incompetent that he would not pass any basic requirements or standards. And perhaps programming really needs to have higher standards and fire incompetent developers at large. His usage of "we" definitely and undoubtedly points in that direction.
