Deus Ex: Human Revolution is one of my favorite games of all time (and the game that got me into games). I enjoyed mankind divided a lot as well, though it felt different. I've started the original Deus Ex a few times but never really got into it; maybe I need to give it another shot.

The newer sequels have a substantially dumbed down story. It’s unfortunate

I'd argue the Human Revolution and Mankind Divided stories are more personal, engaging, and far less campy than the original two. They're all great IMO.
My advice is to put a few more points in your primary combat skill, and don’t forget that you can level up during the game (like I did!)
