I think this is exactly it. They are different and unlike anything else on the road.

It’s certainly not exactly it because the Delorean has an indelible association with a classic film that’s beloved by many. It’s iconic without ever seeing one on the road (and most people have not)

The Cybertruck does not have that quality.

And before that movie, the DeLorean actually had a very similar story - an expensive low-quality car that nobody wanted to buy, founder embroiled in controversy. The reason Doc Brown had the car in the movie was because it fit his image as an untrustworthy mad scientist.

If any movie character gets a a Cybertruck in the next 20 years, it will be a villain, not a sympathetic hero.
