I agree, but that's where we are and I've never been hampered. Electron is not going away.

I run Slack, Discord, Signal, Bitwarden, Asana, VS Code, GitHub - all idling quietly on a 16GB MPB M2. Was the same on my M2.

It's overblown, I don't care about Electron, how it's made (I understand how), who makes it, no dog in the hunt, but there is too much FUD about it, IMO.

In lot of corporate offices, it’s SFF and 1 liter desktops with 8 gb of ram and windows. You use Slack and Chrome, plus MDM software and you barely have enough compute left to move the cursor.

Yeah it's not as bad as people make it seem, but it's also far from ideal. Especially with how many tools we have nowadays to build performant desktop apps, a company of that size should really not be using electron if they know better.

You’re not representative of the target demographic for Discord, dude.

It’s kids playing Roblox on a decommissioned school laptop in a third-world country.

I really feel for them. Back in the day I couldn't play a game while I had Skype open. I was so happy when my friend groups switched to TeamSpeak which used miniscule amount of resources in comparison to Skype. Well until 2015 came and we all switched to discord lol
