That's what first got me into programming! RPG Maker 2000 and its GameFAQs forum. I don't think I ever released anything good, but playing with it- and especially trying games other people made in it, and getting to see how they were implemented!- was huge for me.
I wonder how many people will actually remember this, but there was a game called Jay's Journey that was a surprisingly good send-up of both RPG Maker games and the kind of fantasy RPGs it was based on in general.
