Legend indeed.

Even from this bugreport it looks like he learned his lesson. It is 15 years old so it is irrelevant now. It would be long forgotten if it was not archived on the internet.

Thanks for the fun read.

My takeaways are to redouble my efforts to vet software I rely on, and to appreciate my distros more. It looks like Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and possibly many others had quietly spotted and resolved the issue in their distributions even before this bug report.
